Slab City is such a fascinating place. It's one of the last "free" places to live in the United States. People come from all over the country to escape society and live off the grid. There is no rent, to taxes, and no rules. Sounds wonderful and terrifying at the same time. It's a squatter settlement where people who move there feel like it is the one place where they belong. After visiting Slab City I can honestly say I can completely understand why they feel this way. The people who live here are so welcoming and warm. It really feels like a tight knit community of like minded people here.
Many of the people who settle here put up art installations that reflect their view on society. This one spoke to me the loudest and really stuck with me even days after I left Slab City.

Perhaps this is a lesson on blocking out all of the opinions that society has tried to force upon us. I'm not saying all of it is bad, but I will definitely be more careful on choosing what I listen to and what I need to block out. Living on a desolate land and going off the grid is definitely not for me, but there is a little free spirit in all of us and I'm going to make a conscious effort to tap into my raw self.

Sounds like such an interesting town! The no rent and taxes part sounds pretty amazing, especially with the high rent we have here in New York!
