as the year comes to an end and the new year begins, its got me reflecting on the person i am and the person i want to be. every year i tend to make way too many resolutions that i cant keep, so this year im gonna keep it simple.

1. learn to let go of things that hurt/upset me, don't hold grudges.
2. have compassion. weather its the simple act of buying a homeless person a sandwich or helping out a stranger in need- just have compassion.
3. manage my finances better/ make wiser purchases (ie put back that designer shoe and instead put more money towards my school loans).

it's definitely something that doesnt happen overnight, but a step by step process. #3 will probably be the most challenging for me, but im determined to make it happen. hello 2014, im ready for you!

the straight brow

ever since i chopped off my long locks and embraced life with no bangs, ive really began to look at the shape of my brows. my brows have gone through a long hard journey with me. as a kid ive always had pretty bushy brows, they had no shape and was patchy in some spots. in high school i opted for sharpie chola eyebrows. im not at all exaggerating, those of you who follow me on instagram might have caught this tbt photo. scary, i know. then in college i grew them out and perfected a high arched brow which i still have today. but, alas ive come to the conclusion that i want to change the shape of my brow to a more straight shape. my browspiration: zhang xinyan, rooney mara, and audrey hepburn. i think this shape looks so natural and makes the face look so much younger. what are your thoughts on the straight brow?

monochrome flag

decided to dress up for the 4th without looking like a walking american flag this year. kept to the stars and stripes motif but decided to exclude the red. i call it a monochrome flag. i finally found the perfect shade of orange eyeliner that i wanted. i couldnt get derek lam's spring 2011 runway makeup outta my head so i decided to give it a go. i missed a few pool parties my friends are hosting due to my car being in the shop (sad face). now im waiting for the neighborhood fireworks to go off so i can enjoy the pretty painted sky.

(NARS duo eyeshadow in CLEO, MAC shadestick, MAC powder blush in DIRTY PLUM)

for darker brows i find that it really helps to go over your brows with a cream type shadow first then applying the pastel eyeshadow over the cream. i suppose the same method could be applied to the pink or green eyebrows also seen on the runway, but since i already had these colors i went with the blue. i went light on the eyes and lips and dark on the blush. obv this isnt an everyday look, but its definitely fun to experiment from time to time. now, if only i could get my hands on a pair of those shoes.... hahah.. a girl can dream right?

some highlights:
mac had a buy 2 eyeshadows get 1 free promo, so i decided to experiment with some purple hues instead of the usual black and grays. kinda liking the results.
finally received my long awaited package, the chloe sevignys for opening ceremony in gray suede.
we welcomed a new baby into our circle. say hi to mia's new puppy, ryan. shes adorable!
last night we celebrated steven's birthday at cinespace. it was nice to see people i havent seen in a while. reunions are the best.

ps. to the anonymous reader that asked about my surface to air 2 finger ring, i got it in raw metal. first one on the third row.
